Blog #5 - Night Adventure

It’s not uncommon for Dorothy to lie awake at night, struggling to drift off to sleep as clouds of creativity float through her mind. It’s nights like these where she can’t help but give in to her thoughts, and escape the Foxberry for a night of photography. Ever since she bought herself a camera that has a special night setting, she constantly thinks about sneaking out to explore the darkness with her new possession.

When Dorothy walked out into the streets, she felt an urge to explore the playground, and see how the colorful playset looks through the night lens. As she was taking shots of the slide, the swingset and the monkey-bars, she saw a glimpse of light coming from the power plant. Curiosity took over without her consent, forcing her legs to take her to a hidden spot behind some bushes.

As she ducks down, shielding herself from sight, she sees figures walking out of the power plant. She hears kids in school talking about their visits to the power plant, but these shadows are much too large to be any kid that she knows of. As each individual leaves, she snaps a photo of the various nervous mannerisms and facial expressions. She recognizes every single person, but knows none of them by name. She’s hoping she can show the images to her mom or Jenkins to receive help identifying the unknown faces.

As the last of the figures leave, she begins to pack up her bag. While doing so, her head begins to itch intensely. She has never felt anything like it, and her confusion distracts her from noticing one last person leaving the power plant. As she stands up again, still scratching her scalp, she sees one face she does recognize: Evelyn.

Dorothy quickly whisp out her camera to take a shot of Evelyn, but only manages to snap a picture of her back.

“Damn-it.”

When Dorothy returns home, she feels the weight of fatigue from the night’s adventures. However, she finds herself still struggling to fall asleep because of the itchiness stemming from the infestation of lice growing on her head.
